Direction 61:3 to Break Ground on First Two Homes at “The Farm” on North Texas Giving Day

McKinney, TX – September 3, 2025 — Direction 61:3, a McKinney-based nonprofit that serves youth aging out of foster care, will break ground on its first two homes at The Farm—a transformational transitional living community—on North Texas Giving Day, Thursday, September 18.

This groundbreaking marks a major milestone in the organization’s Launch a Legacy Capital Campaign, which aims to raise $4.2 million to complete Phase 1 of the 4.8-acre campus. Once finished, The Farm will provide housing, mentorship, job training, and community engagement for foster youth transitioning into adulthood.

The two homes breaking ground this month are 2-bedroom independent living residences for aged-out youth who have completed initial phases of the program and secured jobs, transportation, and stability. These homes represent the final stepping stone toward true independence.

“These homes are more than buildings—they’re launching pads,” said Myron Wilson, Executive Director of Direction 61:3. “They give our young adults the dignity of their own space, and the confidence to take the next steps into adulthood surrounded by a supportive community.”

One of the homes was funded through a matching grant from the Rotary Club of McKinney, and the other was generously sponsored by Preston Trail Community Church, showcasing the deep and growing commitment of McKinney-area leaders to invest in vulnerable youth.

The Farm will eventually include 19 total homes: 7 Independent Living Homes,7 Four-Bedroom Program Homes, and 5 Five-Bedroom Program Homes.

North Texas Giving Day: A Moment of Impact

Coinciding with this historic groundbreaking is North Texas Giving Day (NTGD)—the largest community giving event in the nation. Last year, Direction 61:3 exceeded its $110,000 goal, and this year the nonprofit is setting its sights even higher, with a goal of $120,000.

Early giving began on August 28, and donations can be made at https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/organization/direction613.

Support the Capital Campaign: Launch a Legacy

Through the generosity of early partners like the McKinney Rotary Club and Hope Fellowship Church (which has already contributed $275,000), Direction 61:3 has raised 20% of its Phase 1 funding goal—but there’s more work to do.

If you’ve ever wondered how to make a lasting impact in our city—this is it. Every dollar builds more than walls. It builds confidence, belonging, and a path to success. Community members, business leaders, and foundations are invited to support the Launch a Legacy Capital Campaign and be part of building homes, hope, and a future for foster youth in McKinney.
